Start in neighborhood

All on Mantrailing app.  I love this app because it gives all the details I tend to forget(or not know!):  time, temperature,  wind speed, air pressure, humidity.  The map isn't always so accurate because of the loss of signal, but the overall picture is cool.  First 2 pics are of track lake-front (did that one second to avoid crossing over the other track) about 100 yards total.     2nd track started in Berger's yard. . .uphill start, crossed 2 driveways and turn by woods.  About 100 yards total. Both very positive training. Tricks loves this!

Long legs, open field 208 & 601

My pen worked!  I layed a good track!  Mantrailing App shows laying track on blue line and Tricks with red line. Black & white checkered flag is the END.   3 -hr age.  First 2 legs over 150 yards each with drops on each leg.  6 articles total.  He seems to like CHEESE drops better.  They are also easier for me to see!

Wood, wind, problems

Image
Layed the track Friday at 4:45 pm so I could run it Saturday am.  Windy, cold-front moving in overnight. 38 degrees.  Start on grass, then turn into woods and rest in woods.  First problems:  pen ran out.   Forgot phone.  So couldn't write anything, but left markers--clips & flags.      Ran track at 8:45 next morning.  Sunny, cold. I turned on Mantrailing App to follow track.  Fine start and turn into woods.  Did pretty well with articles.  But then started pulling left at one point.  I thought that was wrong. . .but looking back at map, looks like I crossed over my own track!  NOOOO!  Can't believe I did that.  ****WAIT, it wasn't that bad!  The signal in the woods was bad, so I did NOT cross over myself!!!)    So hard to walk straight line in woods. . .esp. with LOTS of fallen trees.  Tricks did well with WAIT command & large fallen-down trees.  Good ...

Class 1/7/23 @ Judi's

Practiced approaching woodline sraight, parallell woods, then enter woods and make turn in woods. Aged 3 hrs in soybean field. Fine start --need to hold and make sure he is just not "charging out of the starting gate".  Went a little off course.   Checked out right and left, then I went left with him.  Judi saw the "ON" behavior, but I didn't.  He turned nicely into woods. But then took a left turn in woods 180 degrees in the wrong direction.  WHY??? Was it the pack of dogs that went through?  Deer?  Other???  And like Judi said, he looked so convincing!  Do I know how to read Tricks?? Can't wait to watch/analyze video from Jen.

Starter tracks Lake Anna State Park

Decided to try a new place with different smells.  Was hoping to see evidence of horses. . .no such luck. Beautiful views, though! Start Track #1:  Aged 1 hour.  About 75 yards long, 1 turn. 40 degrees & cloudy.  Pulled hard.  Good start , but uphill right turn was a little hard.  Almost passed article. Start Track #2: Aged 1 hour.  85 yards. Nice start and then it turned along the woodline. . .just like we practiced yesterday!  He wanted to go left, but track went right. So I just held him until he went right.  Wanted to check out some scents along wood line.  Indicated plastic bag that I unintentially dropped and the clip.

Stair Step SMS 1/2/23

440 yards total.  Ran at 3 hrs 15 minutes.  Wet, short grass- football field.  S 10, W 15 w/ drop at 8 & 9.  58 degrees sunny.  Good motivation.  Tried to parallel track a little.  Marked turns with clips. Wanted to investigate football equipment.  I held him back.  Stopped at all 3 articles.  Made most turns well.  Turn into leg 4 was more difficult.  He wanted to go closer to woods. I played with google maps. . .watched Kelly's tutorial.  Used Mantrailing app on my phone AND video taped from Go pro.  Check out the video:  https://youtu.be/jCNvMBshBgU
