Class 1/7/23 @ Judi's

 Practiced approaching woodline sraight, parallell woods, then enter woods and make turn in woods.

Aged 3 hrs in soybean field.

Fine start --need to hold and make sure he is just not "charging out of the starting gate".  Went a little off course.  

Checked out right and left, then I went left with him.  Judi saw the "ON" behavior, but I didn't.  He turned nicely into woods. But then took a left turn in woods 180 degrees in the wrong direction.  WHY??? Was it the pack of dogs that went through?  Deer?  Other???  And like Judi said, he looked so convincing!  Do I know how to read Tricks??

Can't wait to watch/analyze video from Jen.

    Hi Leigh - when I got home, something bugged out on my phone with the SD card. I've got some ideas on how to recovery video - hope to be able to send something by mid-week!

    Leigh, it doesn't matter what got him. He made an error, it looked like tracking. That is going to happen, and we can't train for every possibility. Let it go! Hope Jen is able to recover the video so you can see what I saw. We've changed his style a good bit, it's going to take some time for you to be able to identify tracking!

 Man, this impressed ME!  He was so ON it!  Sorry the videos are a bit shaky. . .We were moving!  He was pulling nice through tall, clumpy grass.  I really had to be careful of my footing. He ate very little food along the way, even at the start.  Somewhere along the way I tried to adjust the camera view and accidently stopped and restarted it.    So there are 2 videos. He PICKED up the article at the end!  I used a glove and stuffed his toy into the glove with treats and secured it closed w/ rubberband.  No self-rewarding!      Question:  When do I start using a START article?  And HOW?  Do I ask him to pick it up or DOWN on it?  Or just sniff it and go?    Part I           Part II

Buster 2 1-turn tracks 6/15/25

Buster Snow Day. 1/7/25 TWO in a ROW!! + article practice 1/8/25

 Another straight line in the snow with Scent Pads. 90 paces total.  NO articles.   He was excited to go out!  Two weeks ago, he was running the other direction when he saw me put on my tracking books!  Now he is whining to go!  Progress! He did another GREAT track today!  I was so happy and so was Buster!  Put my gloves on this time.  Gave him some love at the start. . .he wants to hug me.  Excitement?  Frustration?  Anticipation?  Nervous?  I am learning to deal with his personality more and more.   He pulled well, but not like a bull moose from yesterday.  Much more maneagable and steady.  Ate/stopped  at almost every Scent Pad! Had a short moment of checking out something, but came right back to track.  Enjoyed his BALL at the end! Buster Snow Day.
