Tracking Class Oct. 29, 2022
Learned some good things today! The scuff, walk, drop food pattern. . .I finally understand it AND was able to use it effectively! Also used some double line-ups! Did 2 starter tracks. . .one in woods, one in open field. Both maybe 60-100 yards. 1 hour 15 and other one 1 hour 30. It was also "double-layed" so that Bob could follow and see how to lay the track.
Woods track --awesome. He kept his nose DOWN and even ate some of the food drops. Made a nice turn, over a big log and stopped at article! Judi said that was the best she has seen him track!
Open field -- started about 45 degrees off the first direction. He nailed the start. Pulled hard. . .nose higher than in woods. Then started paralleling the track (4-5 ft to the right). Judi said to step left to see if he would come back over. Took a little while, but finally the head snapped and he came over. Turn was ok. Got to end and would have passed article if I had not held him. Why didn't he eat food drops on this track?
Remarks:
--Open field was much harder --probably due to elements: wind, full sun. Chemical changes? 60 degrees full sun, light breeze. Dry fields.
--need to work on DOWN for article.
--KEEP scuff, walk , food patterns. Really does help him stay ON the track. He likes the garlic hot dogs!
--I think his trailing experience has taught him that he is "allowed" to fringe. He was never "made" to track.
